Brown and Unbothered Podcast

Hosted by Sharan Bilan & Priya Tahim

Two brown girls, two unhinged opinions, and zero interest in settling for the bare minimum. Welcome to Brown & Unbothered, where we talk relationships, healing, and all the toxic cycles we finally decided to unsubscribe from.

Unfiltered girl talk.
Therapy-meets-chaos energy.
And the soft-but-savage glow-up era you didn’t know you needed.

If it’s messy, we’re naming it.
If it’s healing, we’re hyping it.
If it’s toxic, we’re blocking it.

Grab your chai, your boundaries, and your delulu bestie.
Sharan & Priya are here to keep it brown, bold, and beautifully unbothered.

Are you building a relationship…or just collecting good morning texts? This week, we're diving into the messy middle of modern dating: long-distance connections, becoming accidental pen pals, the chaos of being "just friends," and why letting go can feel so impossible.
We unpack the difference between genuine connection and emotional convenience, explore when long-distance is worth the effort (and when it's not), and have an honest conversation about the friend zone, mixed signals, and emotional breadcrumbs. We also break down what trauma bonds actually are, why intense relationships can be so hard to leave, and how to recognize the difference between chemistry and emotional safety.
Whether you've been holding onto potential, waiting for someone to choose you, or learning to let go of a relationship that no longer serves you, this episode is your reminder that choosing your peace isn't giving up, it's choosing yourself.

Season 4 is officially here, and your favorite unfiltered duo is catching you up on everything that's happened since we last hit record.
We're talking about:
Our 2026 life update: what's changed, what's surprised us, and what we're leaving behind.
The biggest mindset shifts we've experienced this year (because healing isn't linear... and sometimes your own brain roasts you).
What therapy has been teaching us lately, both as therapists and as humans.
Sharan's journey through EMDR training: what she's loving, what's challenged her, and why it's changing the way she sees healing. EMDR can be incredibly effective for processing trauma, but it's also taught us that healing requires pacing, preparation, and flexibility, not just one protocol.
The uncomfortable parts of growth that nobody posts about.
And, of course, the random tangents you know and love.
Whether you're navigating change, rethinking old beliefs, or just here for the laughs, this episode feels like catching up with your best friends after way too long.

Funny how some men confuse control with care.
As if telling a woman what she should wear, how she should act, who she should talk to, how available she should be, or how much of herself she should shrink somehow counts as “protecting” her.
Let’s call it what it is:control is not concern.Possessiveness is not passion.Monitoring is not love.
Too many people package insecurity as standards. They disguise ego as masculinity. They call restriction “respect” when what they really mean is obedience.
And for a long time, women are taught to second guess themselves when they feel that discomfort.
Maybe he just cares.Maybe this is what effort looks like.Maybe I’m asking for too much freedom.
No.
If someone only feels secure when they’re dictating your choices, that isn’t love — that’s fear wearing confidence as a costume.
Real partnership doesn’t need surveillance. It doesn’t need guilt trips, power plays, subtle digs, or emotional pressure to keep someone close.
It trusts.
It makes room.
It understands that a strong woman is not something to contain.
Brown and unbothered means recognizing controlling behavior early — not romanticizing it because it comes wrapped in attention.
It means understanding that being wanted is not the same as being respected.
And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is let people sit with the version of you they no longer have access to because they mistook your patience for permission.
This final episode is a reminder:
The right energy won’t ask you to become smaller to make someone feel bigger.
No dramatic ending. No explanation tour.No reopening closed doors.
Just peace, discernment, and the kind of self-respect that doesn’t negotiate.
Brown. Unbothered. And no longer entertaining behavior that needs to be controlled to be maintained.

This week, Priya and Sharan sit down with Jas Gill for a very “oop… maybe WE’RE the problem too” conversation. From codependency in dating, attachment issues, and people pleasing disguised as “being nice,” to breaking generational trauma that somehow got passed down like family jewelry… nothing was off limits.
The trio gets real about self accountability, looking inward, and realizing healing is not just reposting therapy quotes while continuing to text the same emotionally unavailable man. Priya, Sharan, and Jas unpack the ways survival mode shows up in relationships, why boundaries feel illegal in brown households, and how unlearning toxic patterns can feel both empowering and deeply embarrassing.
It’s honest, chaotic, self-aware, and the kind of conversation that’ll have you questioning your last situationship, your coping mechanisms, and half the advice your aunties gave you growing up.
Because healing sounds cute until you realize it involves accountability.

This week on Brown & Unbothered… we’re talking about the toxic female friendship traits nobody wants to admit out loud. The passive aggressive compliments. The lowkey competition. The friend who supports you until you actually start winning.
Yeah… we’re going there.
We’re unpacking adult mean girl behavior, emotional dumping, jealousy in friendships, and why some friendships end when you finally stop shrinking yourself. Also, soft girl energy with hard boundaries because being kind does not mean being walked over.
And before y’all start pointing fingers… we’re also talking about the toxic traits WE’VE had too. Growth, accountability, healing, and a little unhinged honesty. Basically your group chat in podcast form.

We sit down with Vanita Tahim, Priya's big sister for one of those conversations that starts light… and gets real, fast 🎙️
We’re talking:Mom guilt that doesn’t clock outMarriage beyond the highlight reelThe invisible mental load no one warns you aboutAnd the question we keep coming back to—what even is self-care when you’re taking care of everyone else?
It’s honest. It’s a little unhinged. It’s very us.
For the women who are holding it all together (and wondering who’s holding them) — this one’s for you.

BU OGS pulling up like… so are we updating KPIs or just unpacking trauma disguised as “growth metrics”?
Because last quarter’s highlights include:
healing but make it chaotic
setting boundaries then immediately over-explaining them
soft-launching peace but hard-launching overthinking
Also need clarity… are we measuring:A) emotional stabilityB) how fast we spiral then recoverC) how many times we said “I’m done” and still replied
Pls advise before I update the dashboard incorrectly again.
